My pet portrait project is the first watercolor I have done! I have attempted in the past for practice, but I have not completed a watercolor project.
I expected watercolor to be more challenging, but it was actually easier than color pencil. It takes less time, and has an effortless abstract look to it. I did not expect for the paper to bend up as I painted. This increasingly became more challenging as I painted. I also learned how careful I must be, because it is difficult to undo mistakes.
I learned that if I made a mistake, I should lightly wet the area and the paint will lift up and I can dab it with a paper towel. Also, if I layer too much the paint will mud (such as any medium) and the paper will become saturated and not pick up any paint. Once the paper is saturated when it dries, it can flake and wrinkle. My technique with watercolor needs more practice, because the paper warped.
