My inspiration pages in my sketchbook:
The larger picture on the left is a compilation of photos from online and some I have taken myself. The two nature pictures on the left are mine, which I took in Boone, NC.
To work with a variety of styles and mediums, I chose to use pen and work with a simple contour line technique. Below are some practice pieces:
I had to decide whether to use white or black pen. I love the look of white pen on black paper, but I ended up choosing black on white because I could work with different size pens. This has been the most challenging project so far. I think I took a step back, because it was so simple. Every time I look at my project I find something to fix, but because it is pen I am worried that I could not erase my mistakes. The final product did not look anything like me. I was able to successfully draw a face, but without color I couldn't make the facial features my own.
By the final piece, the projected looked nothing like me. I tried to do something very outside my comfort zone, but I didn't grasp the style or technique for pen well enough to execute it the way I had envisioned. Drawing faces is very challenge, and the most difficult aspect of it is making the drawing look like the person, giving them the lines to show their distinct features.
