I used a photo I took in Panama for this project. I liked the composition, and the Spanish words, as well as the shades of pink throughout the piece. What I have started doing is outlining the photo with black pen to learn the detail of the lines and objects. This helped so much to make it as accurate as I could get it to the photo.
When I first started this project I felt I bit off more than I could chew. After painting the watermelon part, I felt overwhelmed with the time crunch. It took me longer than I anticipated. I felt this piece helped me better understand color, but my values really fell flat. I want to go back and fix them before the AP Exam for sure.
The most challenging part of this piece was actually getting the silver effect of the metal bars on the shopping cart. To blend the colors I used linseed oil. I could have created more texture if I did more work on values.
This was a good learning experience. I have higher goals I hope to reach in this class with oil painting. I love the medium but I still want to develop my skill so much more!
