Using prisma on dark brown paper I drew my pet. At the beginning of the process the paper was good to create depth and helped the texture of the snout pop-out. As I continued drawing the body I realized the brown was no longer giving me the depth I got from the face and nose. I faced either changing the actual color of her fur, or manipulating the color and highlight to look proportional.
During my drawing process, my teacher advised me that I make the angle on the bottom left corner of the rug skinnier/slat it more. I fixed the issue, but reflecting on the project now I should've slatted that line more to give a better perspective. The way the lines were drawn affected the color and the highlights.
To bring attention back to the face, I placed the colorful rug under its face. This helps draw attention to where the drawing looks best and also pay attention to the dog, not the wood, or any empty space. The rug balanced the drawing, giving it color, and more texture, while still not taking the attention away from the face.
What I learned from this project was drawing eyes. Adding hints of color gives depth and focus to the face.
What I would change next time, is making the wood look more realistic and enhancing the highlights. Overall, this project made me learn about focusing on shadows, highlights, and perspectives.
