I love working with oil paints. It is a calming and slow process that I like to really take my time with. It is different than acrylics because the colors blend so much nicer and smoother, because they don't dry as fast. I am more used to working with prismacolors and it shows through my oil paints, because I try to make them as real or accurate as I can. I do want to branch out to a loose style of painting, but for now these are just my practice paintings.
I did one with brush and one with a palette knife. Using the palette knife is something I am very confused with. I try to create texture, but it does not look the way I want it to. It is a very challenging technique and I look up to those who actually enjoy it. I am patient with painting, but using the palette knife can get frustrating. The last time I worked with a palette knife was in Art 2, and I feel like comparing my pumpkin palette knife to my palette knife apple I have lost any skill I could have even had with a palette knife.
For the apples I painted with a brush, I was debating whether the background should be lavender or lime green. I painted it lime green, as you can see in the image below. I think it does look good with the red. So, I then went back and tried to bring out the orange and lavender in the apple.
